FACULTY OF MINING AND GEOLOGY IN BELGRADE
Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade is the only college in the country that trains engineers in two different areas: geology and mining. For years, our academic programs have been aligned with teaching programs of the world’s most esteemed faculties and universities of the same or similar orientation. Our studies are multidisciplinary and specific – they prepare young students for a variety of tasks in practice and real life.

Today, Faculty of Mining and Geology meets the standards of modern higher education and gives young people the opportunity to get a great education for different positions within the mining and geological engineering profession thanks to excellent teachers, internationally recognized experts and by means of modern equipment and literature. Attending any of our courses in either Mining or Geology department opens up an ideal opportunity for those who love nature and the challenge to explore it.

So far, 6,500 students graduated from Faculty of Mining and Geology, 600 gained Master’s degree, 20 specialized and 460 defended their doctoral dissertation.

MINING DEPARTMENT
FACULTY OF MINING AND GEOLOGY IN BELGRADE
It was established in March 1946 as a department of the Technical High School. The Mining Department has 12 departments, which are the basic scientific and teaching unit of the Department. Students are educated and earn their degrees at the undergraduate and master studies at three study programs of Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. Doctoral studies are conducted to study the program of Mining Engineering.

The CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING operates as an independent unit within the Mining Department of the Faculty of Mining and Geology in Belgrade, which has been regulated by statute

  • The center was found on September 1995 with a view to pursuing the following goals and activities:
  • Coordination of educational activities in the Mining Department at the Faculty of Mining and Geology within the scope of environmental protection.
  • Completion of technical documentation with respect to environmental protection within the framework of mining projects, facilities and their surroundings.
  • Organization of scientific and research work with regard to interactions between mining and environment.
  • Organization of scientific, professional and specialized gatherings, seminars, lectures on environmental protection.
  • Publishing of monographs, scientific and popular publications in the field of mining and environmental protection.
  • Popularization of environmental protection in mining enterprises and organizations, etc.

In the course of the 26 past years the following actions were undertaken in the Center:

  • Seven international symposiums were held with the topic “Mining and Environmental Protection” during which a large number of participants took part from many countries of Europe, Russia, America and Asia and four proceedings were published.
  • Numerous actual environmental issues were dealt with and solved relating to mining industry and other allied branches of industry and economy. A series of projects, studies and expertise reports were completed to meet the needs of the industry and local governments.
  • Several monographs dealing with the same issues were already published and one is being prepared for publishing.
  • Numerous lectures were held with eminent scientists from the country and from abroad for the public and for professional and specialized groups.
  • The Center joined several international environmental organizations etc.

Numerous experts are included in the work of this Center, primarily from the Faculty of Mining and Geology, but also from other faculties that belong to the University of Belgrade. Besides the experts and professionals from a series of scientific and research institutes also take active part in all its activities (Mining, Chemical, Biological, Forestry and other Institutes). The Center also maintains a valuable cooperation with engineering companies and business organizations that are engaged in mining, power generation and supply and mechanical engineering. The cooperation with governmental and non-governmental organization from abroad (Germany, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Macedonia, Russia etc.) is particularly important and mutually beneficial.
